Shir is Musak & Burning Mantle Music 2008

Two years ago, my brother, dad, uncle and I visited the Grand Canyon.  We took a helicopter tour into the canyon which was one of the most visually stunning experiences of my life. To be in the air and surrounded by walls of rock messes with your head more than just a bit. Later we stopped on one of the many ridge points and spent time gazing into this world renowned chasm.  It was there I had a fresh revelation of just how impossible it is for us to cross the gulf of sin by our own efforts. There is just no possible way. After working on this song for a while with Travis I played it to Dee. She is usually the first to give songs the thumbs up or, “It’s great honey. Keep working. It will come one day”, statement. After hearing the song Dee added, “not only is Jesus the bridge divine but He’s the bridge that crosses into every culture and every time”.  Dee suggested some changes and produced the anchor line of the song, “You are the bridge that crossed into our time”.

You are God of Glory
We are made of clay
You speak from everlasting
We stammer out the words that we’re trying to say
You are pure and holy
We are stained with sin
Standing at this canyon of separation

That’s why we need You Jesus, Messiah
Holy God in human skin
You tore open the curtain
You stepped out to bring us in
You are the bread you are the wine
Holy wine
You are the bridge that crossed into our time

You are God of Glory
We are made of clay
I know I need redemption
Reach me with your nail pierced hands today
You are pure and holy
Cleanse me from my sin
Kneeling at this canyon of separation

It was impossible
The canyon was uncrossable
You are the bridge that crossed into our time
