Deep Cries Out

Psalm 42:7 has always been a verse I jumped over. It kind of puzzled me but it never caught my attention. One Sunday Gary Stevens, one of our pastors was doing a little exhortation before he did the announcements; he quoted this verse "deep cries out to deep" and said this scripture is "the deep things in us that can only be met by the depth of God". All that afternoon I meditated on that thought, I began to review things that had happened in my life where there were no apparent explanations; the death of my brother, the betrayal of some friends, a God given vision and dream that had died, the death of a close high school buddy who was a missionary and pastor cut down in his prime… I picked up my guitar and deep started crying out.
There are questions without answers in the mind of man
I confess there is much I don’t understand
I don’t need intellectual persuasion
I haven’t come on a sacred occasion
Hear this cry from the cavern of my hungry heart
Chorus
Deep cries out to deep lead me through the door
let your glory cover me
Deep cries out to deep change me to your likeness
so you are all they see in me
There are words not spoken with the tongues of men
Heart expressions not shaped by a writer’s pen
These feelings are beyond infatuation
This earthen jar crying out for transformation
Hear this cry from the cavern of my hungry heart
Chorus x2
As I come I fall on my knees
Your Holy love overwhelms me
Your Holy Love
Your Holy Love
Chorus x3
